About us

There are a record 151,000+ children living in unsafe and unfit housing in the UK right now. When you ask what they want for Christmas, amongst the usual toys and treats, they'll tell you; A flushing toilet. A cooked meal. My own bed. No more arguments. No more damp.

Families will be sleeping on sofas, staying with friends and relatives, without a permanent place to call their own. Some will even be sleeping in freezing cars, damp tents, or huddled in dirty doorways.

Our message is clear: this is not a home.

With your incredible support through Walk for Home, Shelter can continue to stand with those in need of a safe place to call home. Let's walk together to make a real difference!

What we do

Emergency helpline - over the past year, over 22,000 households received advice from our emergency helpline.

Fighting for social housing - we’re fighting to give safe, secure homes to all. Within ten years, we want to make sure that everyone who needs social housing gets it.

Face-to-face support - in 2024, more than 12,000 households came to our hubs for face-to-face advice and support.

Campaigning against discrimination - we’re campaigning to end housing benefit discrimination. Last July, we even won a game-changing court case confirming it was unlawful.
